Welcome to Mighty Mason’s Journey

Hi family and friends! As most of you know, congenital heart defect (CHD) is close to our hearts because our second son, Mason, was diagnosed with a complex defect known as truncus arteriosus while I was 24 weeks pregnant with him.

At just 12 days old, Mason underwent an eight hour open heart surgery to save his life. As medical professionals ourselves, my husband & I always took care of patients, but this time we were on the opposite end. It was our baby who had his chest open post-op, relying on a machine to breath for him while fentanyl kept him comfortable and sedated and milrinone, dopamine and norepinephrine kept his heart pumping. We are so thankful for all the wonderful doctors and CVICU nurses who took care of Mason at CHOA.

While Mason’s journey is not over as we have more open heart surgeries in the future, he is thriving as a four year old. One would never know what Mason has been through until his shirt is lifted. He proudly will show you his zipper line scar and tell you that he had heart surgery. Sometimes the statement brings a smile to my face and other times I break down and cry.

The journey as a heart family is one no one signs up for but since we have been chosen we will continue to forge on with the support of our family and friends to continue fighting for our Mighty Mason. ❤️

Thank you for visiting Mason’s page. Raising funds for CHD research is critically important and personally very meaningful to me. Please help us to fund CHD research by making a donation to my personal fundraising page and come walk with us April 27th. Together we can make a life-saving difference!

Sincerely,
Jenny, Mighty Mason’s Mommy
