I am someone who was born with a congenital heart defect, & still live with it today. I have ‪what is called a Ventricular Septal Defect, better known as VSD, which in clear terms means I have a hole in my heart. Luckily for me, my condition is mild & has only had minor impacts on my daily living. It is also one of the most common CHDs. ‬ About 1 in 4 babies born with a heart defect are diagnosed with a critical CHD, which is what happened for my baby cousin, Cora. April 20th I will be walking in the Congenital Heart Walk in Boston in an effort to raise funds for research to advance the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of congenital heart defects. Though it is unclear whether my father had a CHD, he too passed from a critical heart defect. This cause is near and dear to my heart, and I hope it reaches all of yours.
