King Josiah’s story -
Diagnosed at 20 weeks with a severe congenital heart defect. We were initially told that he would immediately need a transplant and he would have a minimal chance of survival. Initially diagnosed with what doctors believed was a discontinuous left pulmonary artery, we worried if the first surgery was even a possibility.
At birth he was quickly whisked away as his heart jumped into the 300s. A few hours later once stabilized we held our beautiful baby boy for the first time. Three days later came his first surgery, echos reveled that the LPA was small but it was not discontinuous. He would be able to have surgery after all. Doctors performed a PA plasty, BT shunt and opened atrial wall.
Later we would discover that he would need a cath to place a stent in a area of the LPA that narrowed.
Three weeks post surgery we headed home! Josiah joined CHOP's single ventricle program and we closely monitor his heart function on a daily basis. Josiah is our hero, he has experienced more trama in his 3 months than most adults have in a lifetime. He continues to be an inspiration to us all and a daily reminder to smile and enjoy life. He is a king, stronger than most and will continue to be strong throughout his journey.

Hypoplastic left ventricle, PA atresia, and VSD. Single ventricle baby. <3
